Hey

Sorry, I'm flooding our blog again... I'm just still pretty bored. I don't know how, but somehow I managed to get sunburned again today. I thought that after my Dublin-"redder than tomatos"-burn that wouldn't happen again this summer. But it did. The day started out pretty grey so I didn't think about sunblock or anything. But then it turned out to be a really great sunny day and I was sitting by the sea for quite a while with a friend I haven't seen in a long time. So there we have it: I'm red again... :(

But I really remembered why I love Helsinki so much. It's so beautiful walking by the sea: Nice boats, great view, dipping your feet into the water, cosy cafes. Good to be back :) And I'm still amazed about how small the seagulls are here. They're like 1/4 of the monster-size man-eating giant seagulls in Aberdeen.

So once again, take care everyone :)

hiya

Hi guys!

Nothing much going on here... My parents are on their 25th anniversary trip to Dublin, so I'm "babysitting" for my brother (he's 11). We went to Helsinki's amusement park Linnanmäki today and that was fun. I really like one of the roller coasters, because it's Scandinavia's oldest and biggest wooden roller coaster and you get this really old-fashioned feeling riding it (it's from the 1950s). Plus it still has "brake men" (it's so old that that's done manually) which are the hottest guys of the amusement park ;)

Other than that nothing much happening... No one's really around, so I'm pretty bored... Oh well, at least we still have great weather!

I'm cheering for Holland tonight :) Hope you guys don't get into a fight if it's Germany and Holland in the final ;)

Hei hei,

Marianne

Hey ho, let's go

Hi!

I totally forgot about the pictures, will put mine out tomorrow .. (or anyway in the very near future). I'm glad our old man in Buckie knew Charlie after all. This confirmes my whole view of Buckie as the town where evrybody knows your name... Or something like that...
Signe, I'm sorry you didn't get the jobs you wanted. Are you back in the loonybin now (or whatever we want to call it)? Anyway, I'm sure your tan is great!
Hope you're all fine (I was cheering at Holland this wensday, but they didn't score on Argentina anyway... Bummer....)

Pig mugs, Helene

(Ex) Aberdonians Galore

(Ex) Aberdonians Galore
Hello my fellow Aberdonians! I'm sitting at work with nothing to do, so I thought I would make myself useful and write to you all. Spent the entire weekend at my in laws (oh my god, I seriously considered to kill them. Wondered if I could claim insanity due to their empty brain talk). A few days ago I went swimming with my friends in order to try to get rid of my beer belly. I have to admit that I'm not much of a swimmer, but the life guard was REALLY cute, so perhaps this is going to be my new favourite sport. Well, guess that was all for now (I know; my life is just as exciting as a shopping trip to Liedl). Take care! Signe

World Cup :)

Don't worry, Signe, at least Finland isn't in the World Cup either. Nothing new there, though ;) But I'm cheering for Germany (handy to have two "own" countries), and if they don't make it then Holland :) I'm sure you guys in Aberdeen have such a great time watching the games together! It's not really the same watching it alone on your couch...

I'm missing our time together in Aberdeen a lot. But at least the weather is so nice here. It's been nothing but sunshine since I got back and it hasn't been "colder" than 23 degrees. I hope this lasts until the end of the month and that July and August will be very rainy (except for the weekends) since I have to start work... ;)

Take care!!

Back in Denmark

Ok, just tried to compose a post, but some how it didn't really work for me (I'm a disabled computer user). Now I have to type everything all over again, bullocks. It's really nice to hear from all of you. I miss you all, especially since all my friends here are studying for their exams and have no time for me. I passed both my exams in Aberdeen, so now I don't have to study for another 3 months (until my home university opens again), hurra. Unfortunately I didn't get any of the jobs I applied for, so now I'm trying to figure out whether I'm stupid or if it is the law firms that are stupid (I sure prefer the latter). Well, apart from that not much new. I was really sad to discover that Denmark is not even in the World Cup; what has the world come to?! Countries like Angola and Iran (and Sweden) are participating and we are not! That's all from now. I think I will go to the beach and try to work on my tan (nice to get some colour after four months of looking like a ghost). Ta ta, Signe

Hi everyone! I'm trying to figure out how this blog works, and I'm a bit excited since I'm not very good with computers. It's good to be back in Denmark although I was a bit sad to leave. Unfortunately all my friends here are studying for their exams, so I have a lot of time to myself (too much actually). I do miss you all and our good times together!

Unfortunately I didn't get any of the jobs I had applied for, so now I don't know whether to accept the fact that I'm stupid or if it is the law firms that are stupid. I prefer the latter. Well, apart from that there is not much to tell. The weather here is really nice, so I have worked up quite a tan (which is really nice after four months of looking like a ghost). I passed both my exams in Aberdeen so I'm really glad I don't have to go back there in August. It's really nice to here from all of you. My birthday is on June 27th, please do send me a kind thought. Buckie!

Hi everyone,
there is not much to tell from Aberdeen - it was a quiet week in the library...
But, of course, the Worldcup is happening. It was nice to watch the Dutch match with only Dutch people around me - thank you for accepting a German girl (wearing orange sunglasses).
I guess (almost) all remember the old Buckie-guy. It turned out, that he is a friend of Charlie's grandma and just didn't realize who(m?) Lisa was asking for that Sunday morning :-) He told some friends that he was asked for Charlie by five nice women - it must have been very exiting for him...
Have a good time,
-Caro-

Hi guys,

nice to hear that people are getting back safely, and a bit sad (not that they get back safely, but that they're all leaving). After a week of hanging around in my hometown, I'm getting ready to leave for Bergen, which I will be doing horribly early tomorrow (my bus leaves at 05.25.....). So that's what is happening with me.

And, since this was supposedly one of the reasons why we even have a blog, here is a joke (it's not a good one, I challenge anyone to come up with a better one, and it shouldn't be too difficult...):
A group of animals were comparing their dangerousness, and the lion said:
- I'm very dangerous. I can kill and eat almost any animal.
- Well, I'm pretty dangerous myself, said the snake. - I can bite and poison people.
- I'm dangerous too, said the chicken. - All I have to do is cough, and they all run....

(very up to date with the bird flu and all, don't you think? Hope I haven't told it earlier...)

How to create links

Hi, I just took the liberty of adding the link to Marieke's blog to our site. If you want to create a link to your own site, do as follow:

1) Click on the fan that is called "template"

2) Scroll down until you find the links to Beate's and Marieke's blogs (you have to scroll almost all the way down, and may have to search a bit because there is oodles of text)

3) Copy one of the who lines with the links (on the "template"-page) and paste it under the last link (currently this is Marieke's blog)

4) Change the line you copied so that it suits the linke you want to create

5) Republish the blog

6) Open the blog and check that the link is there and that it works

7) Blame me if it doesn't work

Back in Helsinki

Hiya!

Ok, I'm back in Finland now... The flight home went fine, except for the 18 kg excess baggage, for which I had to pay 240 euros, bloody hell!! Now I'm completely broke... But Aberdeen was worth it ;) And of course our dutch KLM pilot was sure to keep us updated on the Holland - Serbia-Montenegro game :) And at the Helsinki airport a customs officer stopped me flashing his badge (cool!), I guess I looked suspicious with my uncountable items of luggage. But he let me go when he heard that I had been away for 5 months.

We have great summer weather here: sun shining, blue skies and 26 degrees! In a wee while I'll go out to sit in the sun (with sunscreen, don't wanna repeat my Dublin burn!!!).

Yesterday I took the taxi from the airport and suddenly thought, oh my God, he's driving on the wrong side. Until I realized, he is driving on the right side. And at the airport I wanted to take the escalator up and almost walked onto the one coming down, because it was the one on the left side. So clearly I've stayed in Britain for too long ;)

Tata!

Last day!!

Hi there!

It's my last day in Aberdeen, and it feels really strange... In a way I wish I was already leaving today, and wouldn't have to just wait, wait and wait... I'm really conserned about my suitcases at the airport tomorrow, I've done a bit too much shopping here... My flight's at 06:15, so it'll be an early morning for me.

By the way, thanks Beate for the blog, Marieke for setting up the picture thing and Caroline for the addresses :) And thanks to everyone for the great time we've had here. Aww, now I'm getting all sentimental ;)

Hope to hear what everyone's up to. And have a great summer, wherever you are! Now I'll go wander around Aberdeen. For the last time.

-Marianne-

Back in Bergen

Just returned to "home" (currently on a matress on the floor) after my first night out in Bergen. Looking forward to sleep galore, unfortunately I just remembered that I promised to go hiking in the morning with my flatmates.

Still, it means 9 hours of sleep, which I think I never achieved at Hillhead (my two last nights gave me a total of 5 hours - both together).

Hope you are all fine wherever you are!

- Beate (a bit tipsy at the moment, I must admit)

and I forgot..

To sign my name. And to say thanks to Caro for the nice list of adresses and phonenumbers and all.

Helene

both this message, and the previous...

Oodles of time

(or is it udles?) Anyway, I'm back home, and I have so much time that I actually cleaned out my closet today (litterally, not metaphorically). It's good to be back, but I miss you all galore. I do not know a psychological term for the whole phase-of-life-over-start-again-ting that Ann Kristin wrote about, but I'll look into it. So how is everything back in Aberdeen?

Happy Summer Vacation!

Last day at Hillhead... Thought I'd be more than happy to be going home, but when Marianne and I walked along Belmont St and Union St today, it dawned on me that another chapter of my life is over. The feeling of starting on a blank page ( once again) is ambivalent... Well, it don't want to get too sentimental here - it should be a day of joy, and I know the summer has lots of events in store for me, but I know that we all share this "odd" feeling. I am sure that there is a psychological phrase for this fase we're going through(?)

Have a wonderful summer, y'all!

Ann-Kristin
Thank you

Good morning everybody,
unfortunately I have no jokes or news to tell...
Just wanted to thank Beate for creating this - such a good idea! And Marieke, thanks for the photo albums.
I wish you a great weekend wherever you are!
